XFtoWP Question about integration

Hello There,

I am looking to maybe purchase your XFtoWP plugin,
but I have one question.

I want to have a landing page, which only shows news (I think I would use a news add-on for wordpress to do so).

Then, there shall be the button in the top menu that links to the forum.

1) Is what I try to achieve possible? - Do you have experience with other users, using a wordpress news add-on together with your XFtoWP plugin?
(is there maybe any automatic news addon you could recommend & which works with your plugin?)

2) What is the best way:
Have it all on one domain, or use a sub-domain for the forum?

Either
a) myname.com / myname.com/forum
or
b) myname.com / forum.myname.com

Is both possible, what would you recommend?

Thank you very much!

Andy

Hi Andy, thank you for the questions.

The basic idea of XFtoWP and forum content is that you can link a post or page to an XF thread with manual or automated tools. If your news plugin creates a new post in a custom post type, a thread can be created on your XF site linked automatically with the XFtoWP plugin.

This will show comments at the end of the article on the WordPress side, and update when new replies are posted to the thread.

2) What is the best way:
Have it all on one domain, or use a sub-domain for the forum?

Either
a) myname.com / myname.com/forum
or
b) myname.com / forum.myname.com
Both are possible and I personally like the setup you've outlined in option A, where WP is installed to the root and XenForo in the subfolder.

Thanks, understood.

So actually,
it is possible to use the landing page (myname.com) as wordpress site, with a news plugin.

And, these news can be used to generate new threads each day. That sounds great!

One last question:

If I would use a wordpress social network plugin/theme,
on myname.com/social for example,
could then the user data of Xenforo / this social network be synchronized?!

So that users do not have to login in there and here again ... but stay logged in in both.

Did you ever had such a use-case?

I could imagine, that there are some admins that would like to use something similar.

Thank you very much.
Andrew

Sry, I watched your yt video
and maybe I got somthing wrong here...

I would run wordpress on main site (myname.com), and would only use a wp news addon to show news on this main site.

> However, using your XFtoWP plugin, is it possible to let the plugin create new threads in the xenforo forum, whenever a new news-story is being imported by the wp news plugin?!
(and fill it with the news?)

> Is it possible to set up a social network (myname.com/social), which would also just be a wp social network addon,
and sync all /forum users with this social network?!

> Do I install wordpress the normal way (on root), and xenforo the normal way in a subfolder (myname.com/forum),
and later sync both?

Thank you for clarification.

Yes, if a user is registered via WP they will be created in XenForo. You can take this further with the plugin by syncing usergroups and sending private messages/alerts on registrationm and during other actions too.

Also, if a user logs in via WP you can also enable the plugin to auto-login and redirect them to XenForo. It sounds like the perfect use case for your social network signup flow!

XFtoWP works with many plugins out of the box at a basic level, but I would have to check the plugin you are referring to myself to 100% say with certainty. Do you have a link to it, and hopefully it's something I can try on my own dev site?

It is possible a custom integration would have to be made to accommodate such an action, but I have anticipated this during the development of the plugin and adding an integration is usually quite simple. Again, if I can see the plugin I can help guide you through the support forums and possibly even update the plugin to have your integration included. I'm not perfect, but I take pride in giving great support even if it involves a little coding sometimes.

Yes, you can import/export in both directions but you get most of the functionality like auto-login and registration when done from the WP side. There is a companion XF addon that allows you to capture registrations from XenForo and register them in WP (the opposite direction) but that addon requires both sites to be on the same server.

Either way, but I think your setup makes more sense to have WP in the root folder. Installing the integration is simple as it is as easy as installing a plugin to WordPress and setting up some easy options. There are doc articles at XFtoWP.com to help you through these steps.
