Passwords failing to sync

Hi,
Password fails to sync
We have successfully synced our 2000+ users from WP Memberpress to XF. The login url works and takes you to the forum but then says the passwords are incorrect when trying to log in.

The Forum is on a different server to WP so not sure if that plays into the issue
How do we get the passwords to sync? We don't want members to need to log in twice and we do want them to remain logged in.
The forum will be private and not available to the public.
Thanks

Hi @Adrian Coleman I recommend you enable the "Redirect after login" setting in the WP admin > XFtoWP > User syncing > Settings tab. This will bypass the need for the passwords to be the same and login and redirect the user from WP into your XF forum.

Hi Alex,
That bypasses the website completely though. What we need is when members log in they go to our private members logged in page and have a link from there to the forum.xyzetc.com without the need to log in twice. That was purpose of using the plugin.
Thanks
Adrian

Hi Alex,
From this page:
https://xftowp.com/xftowp-15/

Option 1 - The login user to XF after WP login does not work
(Option 2 – Not applicable as we need WP to XF)
Option 3 - The Generate Auto login from login URL ID doesn’t work either
Passwords from WP do not seem to be synced with WP which means our users are not able to be automatically logged in either with redirect tick as you suggest, or directly.

As long as the XF and WP user are connected, the same password is not needed. Where is the login page on your website? You can private message me a URL if you are more comfortable, as the plugin is setup to auto-detect logins from the wp-login.php URL by default.

If you have a membership plugin there may need to be a small code snippet you need to add into your theme to make the "Redirect after login" function work. I think this is the best route to pursue if I am understanding your setup correctly.

Just to add that Alex has been very helpful in getting things to work for us. ⭐
Good to know, but we have exactly the same problem. Sharing the solution would be very helpful.

I’m guessing that XftoWP is currently logging in users to XF by “cheating”, i.e. by setting XF cookie state to logged in?

However, when users leave XF, on return they will have to log in again via WP. Attempting to log in to XF directly, i.e. the “normal” way, will not work, since the password has not been synced. This is very counter-intuitive for users – the link in the XF menu that says “Login” will no longer log them in!

I'm really in the dark on this. It's been a week since purchase with zero assistance.

Any pointers appreciated.

My reply to your thread should offer some clarity on some of the points you've raised here:

By bulk importing and connecting each WP user to an XF user it becomes possible to log users in without checking passwords. As stated in the other thread, the plugin runs most of it actions from the WP side. For example, when a user logs in from the WP login screen the plugin can then also login a user to XF.

Same thing for user passwords—if the origin of the action comes from WordPress the plugin can run a mirror action over to XF and update that user's password too. By default the XFtoWP plugin covers the default WP register screen at https://domain.com/wp-register.php and also handles custom screens added by plugins supported by the integrations.

I have also just released an XF companion addon that will allow you to detect user logins from the XF side and subsequently log them into WordPress, but the WP and forum must be on the same server. Here's the addon link:

I know this is a lot of info and I think it may be worth scheduling a call between us to figure out your setup and further grind out these details. I will contact you privately about this if you are interested.
