Connecting Users From XF to WP

I had a question about connecting users (synching) from XF to WP.

I was wondering if a new user registered on XF would they synch back to WP? Or, does it only work if the user registers on WP that it will synch to XF?

I hope that's clear :ROFLMAO:

Thanks!

Hey @JBsmooth, perfectly clear, and the answer is that users must register via WP to be synced to both sites. Since the plugin lives in WP we only have the ability to perform XF actions when something is done on the WP side. I'd love to help you come up with a good work flow, and it is in the works to offer a companion registration form + custom user fields mapping plugin so you can easily pass any user register data into XF.

@Alex - I would LOVE help mapping everything. I'm using WP and XF and going to integrate memberpress. If you're willing to help, I can give you the site info and my contact info. Let me know!!

Thanks!

You are in the right place. (y)

WP admin > XenForo > User sync > Settings > Enable sync on user registration
All I have is WP admin > XenForo > then Settings/Edit Strings/Connected Data.

I dont have User sync > Settings > Enable sync on user registration

Ah, check your API permissions in the "Site Setup" section—you need to have the user:read and user:write assigned to the API key you setup in your XF admin panel.

Next press the "Refresh forum data" button and check if the permissions show on WP now.

Thanks for the extra info! You should find the answer in a previous thread:

So I got the sync option to show up by adding a .htaccess file. Then I went into WP and ran the "Get latest forum data"

It's still not syncing though.

So I deactivated memberpress and it worked.

I guess when MemberPress is activated you have to use the MemberPress registration form? I was using the wp-login registration form.

The wp-register form should still be syncing. Have you also installed the MemberPress-XFtoWP plugin?

I'd love to help you come up with a good work flow,
Prevent all Xenforo registrations, by forwarding Xenforo login attempts to Wordpress. Present the Wordpress Login popup instead of the Xenforo one.

I'm in the situation that I registered here on the Xenforo side, but I dont have a Wordpress login.

Yep and one thing I've found is once you finally register to WP a new forum account will most likely get created so you will have an extra forum username that you don't use already synced to your WP account.

The workaround here is for the user to edit the manual user sync form (a shortcode you embed to their account page) and unlink the empty username and add the proper one.
