Hi,

I have a freind that has a static site.

He shows up on the first page of Google for a number
of search terms.

He would like to switch over to a blog and use a responsive site.
So your new Aroxis looks real intresting.

The question is how do you go from a static
site to a blog and keep your Google listings?

I would think all of the links will change and you would
lose your Google love. :o

To change or not to change?

Thanks

I would definitely make the change. Based on some changes Google has made recently anyway, your friend is much better off with a blog than a static site.

Losing ranking doesn't have to be an issue. If he's making the switch on the same domain name, a page or two may have to be replaced. But for all other pages, 301 redirects and informing Google of the URL change can preserve a lot of ranking.

As with any major move, there will be pros and cons. Your friend just has to decide which side is better for his or her web presence. I would almost always choose to use a blogging platform over a static site.

Thanks for the response Sean.

I think a change makes sense also, especially with the huge
increase in all of the different user devices.

I understand 301, but how do you tell Google of the change? Site Map maybe?

Thanks again.

That's definitely a good way. I use XML Sitemap plugin on all of my blogs. You can also use something like Google Webmaster Tools to submit URLs. I really don't think it'll be necessary, though. 301 should be enough. Better believe the spiders will crawl!
