Customization

Kara's Photo Kara 02 Feb 2012

Hi Alex - In general, how do you customize Marketer's Delight? Do you make changes to Thesis custom.css and or custom_functions.php? I'm just wondering how the Thesis custom files work in relationship to the child theme's css and functions.

Hey Kara,

Marketers Delight acts as a child theme, So, the theme file are located outside of the /thesis/ folder.

But, within the Marketers Delight folder, there is a folder called custom, which has custom_functions.php and custom.css. So, you should do all your customizations in that folder.

Alex,

I'm running thesis and working on content for a membership website. I feel buying a thesis theme would make the most sense for presentation. I want a static homepage that loads fast and is simple and captures your attention. I am then looking to have an Academy page (membership portion), a Community page (similar to what you have here), and a Blog page. Would MD be my best bet, or do you have another suggestion. Here are two websites that I like as examples of great homepages. They are simple and get your attention: www.mailchimp.com www.thegreatbeardedreef.com

Thanks for your help!

Glenn

Hey Glenn,

MD would be a great candidate for this. With the Page Lead templates, you can easily create well-designed pages and easily customize them with CSS and Thesis hooks.

A recent client project we are relaunching soon uses a very customized version of MD, and has some similar features to what you're asking. It really is a flexible skin, and absolutely think you should try it out. :D

Alex,

Thanks for the VERY quick response. I am not a coder and I have been trying to learn just some basic stuff on thesis so I can get my site up and running and make it look good. I will eventually hire someone who can do coding for me, etc. One big reason I bought thesis is for the SEO benefits. So with my minimal knowledge, can I get MD to look good? I really don't know CSS or understand thesis hooks.

By the way, do you have any sample sites I can click on to see MD?

Thanks!!

Hey, SimpleJungle. I can assure you that you can get MD2 to your liking. I believe that MD2 will look amazing if you use all of its built in features. The page leads, feature box, widgets, and other skin functions together look great. Mix that with the easy to use design options of Thesis itself and you'll have a great looking site.

Likewise, we're here in the support forums to help. So if you are trying to make a change and don't have the knowledge to do so, all you have to do is stop by and we'll try our best to get you taken care of.
