Once you have downloaded the ZIP file of your Thesis skin (from either the Kubicle or your forum account), be sure to unzip it.
It’s always recommended your blog is running the latest version of Thesis. Skins are not tested on older versions of Thesis, but will usually work on any 1.8.x version.
Quick Instructions ↩
(see below for more thorough instructions)
- After you’ve unzipped the downloaded folder on your computer, find the
customfolder (may be calleduploadin some skins) and upload its contents into thethesis_18x/customdirectory on your server, adding to and overwriting anything else in the custom folder. - After the upload is complete, login to your WP dashboard and navigate to Thesis → Manage Options → All Options and import the .dat file from the download into All Options. The file in your download is named something like thesis-all-options-20120211.dat.
- Navigate to your Thesis → Design Options and click the save button. Also, navigate to Thesis → Skin Name under the Thesis Menu and save its options as well.
Step 1: Upload the Custom Folder to Thesis ↩
Note: If you have a customized Thesis site already, be sure to save your custom.css and custom_functions.php customization before proceeding!
After you’ve unzipped the ZIP folder you downloaded from Kolakube, you need to upload the contents of the custom folder (may be called upload – highlighted below) into the custom directory which is in root/wp-content/themes/thesis_18x. This will add to the contents of your custom folder as well as overwrite some files:

“custom” folder on your server
Step 2: Upload Options ↩
The last step is to import the skin options into the Thesis options in WordPress.
Start by logging in to your dashboard and navigate to Thesis → Manage Options.
Under ‘Upload Options,’ go to the ‘All Options’ file uploader and upload the file thesis-all-options-123456789.dat which is located in the skin download folder.

Step 3: Save Design Options ↩
After you upload the options file, go to the Thesis Design Options, and your custom skin options panel and click each respective Save button. That way, the design options will be loaded to your skin.
You can do this by going to Thesis → Design Options and clicking the “Big Ass Save Button.”
