How to Use Custom Icons in the Main Nav Menu

Chronicl nav menu

A popular feature of Chronicl is your ability to easily add icons to your navigation menu. This is a very easy thing to accomplish using the built-in WordPress menu system.

First off, login to WordPress and go to the WordPress Menus section under Appearance.

Make sure you create a new menu and assign it to the “Main Menu” in the sidebar:

Create main menu

After you’ve assigned the main menu, create a new menu item and in the Navigation Label section, use this formatting:

<span>K</span> Nav Label

Custom menu links

The magic is behind the letter we wrapped in the span tag. Chronicl uses the powerful WebSymbols Typeface, which converts letters into icons. Without images!

So, to pick which icon you want, to use in your menu, click the link above and choose which icon you like. Then, find the associated letter, and wrap it in between the span tag like I did in my demo.

Save your nav item, and in minutes you’ll be able to create a beautiful, icon-ed out nav menu!
